Rivian’s Travel Kitchen unexpectedly recalled

Rivian has initiated an unexpected recall of its newly launched Travel Kitchen. The reason behind the recall has so far been unexplained, and was made even more interesting as it occurred while the product was still in transit to buyers.

Rivian launched their Travel Kitchen less than two weeks ago, after shelving plans for a more elaborate camping accessory. The new Travel Kitchen included only a 2-burner induction cooktop, as well as an area to prep and store food, all for US$1,400.

Despite the lack of features compared to the original product, some owners did order the Travel Kitchen, with the company recently starting to ship them out. However, that is where things took a turn, as some customers began to notice that their shipments were in limbo not progressing as expected.

Upon checking their tracking information, they discovered that the packages were being returned to Rivian without any clear reason provided.

Attempts to reach out to Rivian for clarification only resulted in mixed messages. Some users on the Rivian forums were told that their orders still appeared as shipped in Rivian’s system, with no acknowledgment of the recall, while others were informed of a vague “delay in shipments” with promises of resuming deliveries “in the near future.”

Without a clear explanation, owners have speculated about the reasons behind the recall. The Travel Kitchen is now listed as “no stock” on their Gear Shop. Rivian wasn’t quick enough to recall all shipments, and some made their way to customers, who have reported minor issues like the kitchen not being level, but there has been no indication that these issues are severe enough to warrant a full-scale recall.
