Rivian is gearing up to unveil the updated versions of its R1S and R1T models, with the reveal expected to take place on June 6, 2025 as part of Rivian’s Electric Summer Kick-Off event.
The refresh of the R1 models comes just a few years after their initial debut, with Rivian focusing not on a complete overhaul but on refining and optimizing manufacturing to realize cost efficiencies. According to images and details that have leaked, those cost efficiencies have resulted in some things being added and other removed, with some of the updates including a new thinner headlight bar, the removal of the turn signal ring around the headlights, new door handle sensors, removal of the front fender cameras, and a new optional package that adds black badges to replace the traditional chrome.
Interestingly, none of the photos of the refresh builds that have been spotted by fans are of the R1T, with only the R1S being spotted so far.
Despite not planning significant design changes for the 2025 refresh, the architectural updates are aimed at refining the vehicles further. Rivian has indicated that these modifications will make their EVs more luxurious and efficient, potentially setting a new standard in the premium EV segment. The NHTSA VIN decoder indicates Rivian will also introduce a new “Premium” trim that will likely enhance the luxury appeal of these models.
As we have previously reported, leaked certification documents reveal changes under the hood such as the addition of heat pumps, battery improvements switching to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, and a more efficient charging system.
The R1 lineup is also expected to gain a tri-motor variant, promising even more power.
