Polestar Canada reports 570 Polestar 2 sold in Q1 2023; debuts electric Roadster concept

Polestar Canada has released its performance in the first quarter of 2023, where it sold 570 Polestar 2. The performance brand also debuted the Roadster electric concept at the Montreal EV show.

While 570 may appear low, it represented a 250% increase year-on-year. The company sold 1,800 Polestar 2 for the whole of 2022. Polestar believes Q1 2023 has set the momentum for the rest of the year. Hugues Bissonnette, Head of Polestar Canada, said, “We tripled our volumes in 2022 while our retail network remained unchanged, demonstrating the increased momentum and enthusiasm for our brand in Canada. This year, we will use the experience and access to data we have gained over the past year to further improve our operations. We will also expand within our existing footprint in order to better serve our customers and capitalize on opportunities to increase local market share.”

Part of Polestar’s strategy for 2023 is to focus on Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, all of which account for 92% of Canada’s EV market.

Polestar sold about 12,000 EVs globally in the quarter.

The brand’s electric Roadster made its Canadian debut at the Montreal EV show on April 21st. Polestar says the concept “builds on the design, technology and sustainability ambitions laid out by the Polestar Precept and showcases the brand’s vision for future sports cars.”

According to Polestar, some elements of the concept car have started appearing in its production vehicles, including the mono-material interior. A version of the car, the Polestar 6, is coming in 2026.

Polestar recently unveiled the Polestar 4 with no rear window.
