Polestar has hit a production milestone as the Swedish automaker celebrated the 150,000 electric vehicle (EV) rolling off its production line. The milestone comes at the same time as the start of deliveries of the upgraded Polestar 2.
The Polestar 2, the brand’s first volume model introduced in 2020, has been a quiet success in the three years since its launch with over 150,000 units now being produced. That success has continued into 2023 where in the United Kingdom more than 20,000 Polestar 2 cars have been sold, along with Polestar also being the fastest-growing car brand in 2023 with new vehicle registrations increasing by 174% compared to the previous year.
The Polestar 2 has also seen some changes with the launch of the upgraded version this month. One of the most notable upgrades is the Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor model, which now has a 320 mile EPA rated range. The maximum DC charging speed has been boosted to 205 kW for vehicles equipped with the new 82 kWh battery.
“The upgraded Polestar 2 is the best version to date. With improved software, better quality, longer range and faster charging, it is the basis from which we continue to grow our business,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.
The upgrades also impacted performance. The adoption of rear-wheel drive for single-motor versions and a rear-biased setup for dual-motor models have enhanced the Polestar 2’s driving dynamics with weight shifting over the driven wheels for improved traction and control.
