Opening of Tesla’s 44-stall Ajax Supercharger delayed – here’s how you can help

Tesla and electric vehicle owners in the Greater Toronto Area hoping to plug in at the new 44-stall Supercharger in Ajax will have to wait a little longer.

We reported last week that the Ajax Supercharger, which will be Canada’s largest once it opens with 44 stalls, was set to be commissioned this Friday, January 23, 2026. However, we have just learned today the station’s opening has been delayed due to issues attributed to the local utility provider, Elexicon Energy.

Construction of the Supercharger, located in the Durham Centre off Kingston Road East and Harwood Avenue, began in May 2025 and was completed quickly. The hardware is ready, the lot is paved, signage is installed, everything is ready to go—but the final power connection has yet to be made, with the site now sitting idle for nearly six months.

This is not the first time Tesla Superchargers in Ontario have faced lengthy delays. Alectra Utilities, another regional utility company, was previously behind delays in energizing several sites across the province, including one in Mississauga that sat idle for over a year before it was activated.

Now, Elexicon appears to be following the same frustrating trend, leaving EV drivers, and even Tesla themselves, waiting with no transparency or communication on when service will begin.

Call to Action for Tesla Owners

If you’re a Tesla owner, or any electric vehicle owner, this delay directly impacts your access to reliable fast charging infrastructure. We encourage you to contact Elexicon Energy and express your frustration at the delay, reminding the utility company how important these projects are to the growing EV community. Hopefully community pressure will help accelerate the opening—or at least push for accountability.

Subject: Request for Update and Action on Tesla Supercharger in Ajax

To whom it may concern,

I’m writing to express my frustration regarding the delayed activation of the Tesla Supercharger at Durham Centre in Ajax, Ontario. The site has been fully constructed for nearly six months but remains offline due to outstanding utility connection work by Elexicon Energy.

This site will be the largest Supercharger in Canada, providing essential fast-charging infrastructure to not only Tesla owners, but owners of all electric vehicles in the region. Its delay is not just an inconvenience—it hinders the adoption of sustainable transportation and impacts thousands of current and future EV drivers.

I respectfully urge Elexicon Energy to prioritize the necessary work to bring this station online as soon as possible, and to provide public transparency around the reason for the delay and the updated timeline for completion.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]
Tesla Owner
