Tesla has seen another significant leadership change, this time with Omead Afshar now overseeing the company’s operations in North America and Europe.
Afshar, who joined Tesla in 2017, has been promoted to the role of vice president, where he will oversee sales and manufacturing operations for North America and Europe, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. Prior to this, Afshar held various senior positions, including a role in the “Office of the CEO” at Tesla, where he worked closely on the construction of Giga Texas, as well as spending time in senior roles in SpaceX and X.
In his new role at Tesla, Afshar takes over responsibilities that were previously managed by Tom Zhu, Tesla’s Senior Vice President of Automotive. Zhu, who played a key role in scaling Tesla’s operations in China, moved to North America in early 2023, before returning to China earlier this year.
Afshar’s new responsibilities will also involve working closely with senior executives in the company’s North American and European teams, including key figures such as Troy Jones, VP of North American Sales and Service, and Jason Shawhan, Director of Manufacturing for Tesla’s Texas operations.
Afshar has previously made headlines surrounding an internal investigation related to his role in purchasing construction materials for Giga Texas. Afshar reportedly ordered glass and told employees it was for a special project. The investigation was launched on the belief that the purchases were for CEO Elon Musk’s personal use.
This is the second new vice president at Tesla this week. As we reported yesterday, Ashok Elluswamy was promoted to Vice President of AI Software. Elluswamy has been with Tesla for nearly 11 years, holding the title of Director – Autopilot Software before this promotion.
