Nissan has announced that its Ariya electric vehicle (EV) owners will have access to Tesla’s Supercharger network in Canada and the United States starting next week, December 10, 2024.
On that date, Ariya owners will be able to plug in and charge at more than 17,800 Tesla Superchargers across North America. The access is only for the Ariya, as Nissan’s only other electric vehicle (EV), the iconic Leaf model, is not compatible with Superchargers and Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) technology.
Since the Ariya does not come with a NACS charge port, owners will have to purchase a NACS adapter from Nissan, which the automaker will be selling for $309.99 in Canada and $235 in the US. These adapters can be only be ordered through a Nissan dealer, and orders can be placed starting today ahead of next week’s rollout.
If you’re looking for a cheaper option, we recommend the A2ZEV Typhoon Pro adapter for C$234/US$164.50.
Nissan says that its future EVs in 2025 will all come with a NACS charge port as standard equipment, eliminating the need for adapters.
Along with announcing Supercharger access, Nissan also announced changes to the Nissan Energy Charge Network. In addition to Superchargers, the network now includes access to ChargeHub, Shell Recharge, FLO, Chargepoint, Circuit Electrique, BC Hydro, and IVY charging networks in Canada. In the US, Electrify America, Shell Recharge, ChargePoint and EVgo have been added.
According to Tesla, the next automaker to gain access to the Supercharger network should be Mercedes-Benz.
