Ford Motor Co. has published their April 2022 sales figures, and the numbers show a positive trend for the electric vehicle segment, while their overall vehicle sales continue to drop.
According to Ford, sales of their battery electric vehicles increased 139% in April 2022 compared with the same time period last year.
Sales of the Mustang Mach-E led the way, increasing 95% over last year, marking its best month ever with 3,805 units delivered in April.
Their other EV, the newly released commercial E-Transit, saw its sales increase 62.5% over last month.
In a press release announcing the figures, Ford vice president of sales and distribution Andrew Fick confirmed the company is also now shipping their third EV, the F-150 Lightning.
“While industry semiconductor chip shortages persist, improved inventory flow in April delivered a significant share gain of 1 percentage point over a year ago with Ford outperforming the industry. Inventory flow bolstered stronger F-Series, Mustang Mach-E, E-Transit and record April Ford brand SUV sales. We are now shipping all models of the electric F-150 Lightning,” said Andrew Frick.
The positive figures are in contrast to their overall vehicle sales which dropped 10.5% to 176,965 in April 2022.
That continues a trend from the first three months of the year and puts the automaker 15.3% behind where they were at this point last year.
