Motional launches robotaxis in Las Vegas

Motional has launched their fleet of BMW 5 series robotaxis in Downtown Las Vegas.

The company already has a fleet of robotaxis working on the Las Vegas Strip, but this latest rollout expands the service.

Their Vegas Strip service has driven over 100,000 riders through Lyft so far and counting.

The new downtown robotaxis are operating between the Stat and the Mob Museum. However, they also include points between, including City Hall, Container Park and the Arts District.

Each taxi does have a human safety driver. However, they will only intervene if there is a safety issue or emergency situation.

Motional’s Fleet Operations Manager said this about the new service.

“What we are looking to do is to provide a safe, reliable transportation option for folks to be able to get to work, visit friends and family, or just go out for a night on the town and have this without the complexity of having to find places to park, worrying about if they are going to have a few drinks and driving.”

Plus, for riders, the best part is the service is free.

Interested riders will need to book through the Via app, and the service will operate Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
