Mercedes-Benz launches 400 kW EV fast-charging network in Canada

Mercedes-Benz has officially launched its Canadian EV charging network, kicking things off in British Columbia with a series of ultra-fast stations across Metro Vancouver and southern B.C.

The German automaker confirmed this week that four sites — Abbotsford (Abbotsford Power Centre), Pitt Meadows (Meadow Vale Shopping Center, Surrey (Panorama Village), and Tsawwassen (Tsawwassen Mills) — are already live, with four more locations coming online over the next several months.

When fully built out, the Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging (HPC) network will consist of eight charging stations in Abbotsford, Coquitlam, Nanaimo, Penticton, Pitt Meadows, Squamish, Surrey, and Tsawwassen. Mercedes says each site is designed to serve both local EV drivers and long-distance travelers, with stations placed near shopping centres, restaurants, and major travel corridors.

Mercedes’ chargers are are Alpitronic HYC 400 DC fast chargers, capable of delivering up to 400 kilowatts (kW) of power — putting them among the fastest public chargers currently available in the country. On vehicles that support it, that translates into adding more than 300 kilometres of range in about ten minutes.

Mercedes didn’t publish how much they are charging customers to plug in, but according to Plugshare, it costs $0.50/kWh at all of their stations.

Unlike most fast-charging stations, Mercedes is deploying a four-cable system at every stall. Each charger includes two CCS-1 cables and two North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors, meaning virtually any EV sold in North America can plug in without any extra hardware.

The network will also support Plug & Charge, allowing compatible vehicles to authenticate, start charging, and handle billing automatically just by plugging in — no apps, credit cards, or RFID taps required.

“Launching our first Canadian hubs demonstrates how Mercedes-Benz is redefining the charging experience. With our new design, every stall supports every vehicle—no adapters, no barriers—reflecting our commitment to simplicity, reliability, and access for all. It’s an important step in building the infrastructure EV ownership demands while strengthening the public charging network in Canada,” said Heiko Schmidt, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz HPC North America and Mercedes-Benz HPC Canada.

Mercedes-Benz already operates more than 650 high-power charging stalls across the United States, and the company says it is evaluating further Canadian expansion beyond British Columbia. For now, the Vancouver-area launch positions B.C. as the first province to get a taste of Mercedes’ premium, brand-backed charging ecosystem — and one of the most technically advanced public fast-charging networks in Canada.
