Lucid is preparing to take its Saudi Arabian operations to the next level, moving beyond vehicle re-assembly toward full-scale manufacturing inside the Kingdom.
Speaking in a recent interview, Faisal Sultan, President of Lucid Motors Middle East, confirmed that the company has already completed between seven and eight buildings in Saudi Arabia, setting the stage for a transition from assembly operations to a fully integrated production facility.
Once complete, Lucid vehicles will be manufactured entirely within the Kingdom rather than relying on partially built units shipped from the United States.
According to Sultan, this transformation is not solely about serving the local market. Saudi-built Lucid vehicles will be exported globally, with destinations extending well beyond the Gulf Cooperation Council, positioning Saudi Arabia as Lucid’s exporthub, rather than just a regional assembly point. Lucid’s presence in the Kingdom began with the launch of its AMP-2 facility in 2023, located in King Abdullah Economic City. However, AMP-2 initially operated very differently from a traditional car factory. Vehicles were fully built at Lucid’s AMP-1 plant in Casa Grande, disassembled, and then shipped to Saudi Arabia as kits for re-assembly.
As Sultan previously explained, “The car is fully built in Arizona … then it gets de-assembled… then the car gets shipped here as a kit, and that kit is then put back together.” This approach allowed Lucid to establish a manufacturing footprint in Saudi Arabia while focusing on workforce training and operational readiness.
Production volumes at AMP-2 have remained modest. In its early days, workers were re-assembling roughly 16 to 20 vehicles per day. Sultan described the reasoning behind this careful ramp, saying, “It [the Saudi factory] is a small operation for us. The reason why we have kept it this way is that we want to take baby steps in our approach of training people. You are doing roughly 16, 17 to 20 vehicles a day, rather than an hour, you can spend time with them to really train them.”
Lucid’s longer-term ambitions are far more substantial. The company has already stated its intention to evolve AMP-2 into a full manufacturing hub capable of producing vehicles from the ground up, with eventual annual capacity targets reaching as high as 150,000 units.
Earlier this year Lucid became the first car manufacturer to earn the Kingdom’s “Saudi Made” certification.
