Lucid has announced the 2025 Air sedan lineup, including the Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, and Sapphire trims, have received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The NHTSA evaluates new vehicles each year, subjecting them to comprehensive crash tests through the agency’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). These tests assess protection levels for occupants during frontal, side, and rollover collisions, with the Air receiving the maximum five-star rating for each category.
“Safety has been a top priority from the outset at Lucid, and achieving five stars in NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program will give owners further confidence in their Lucid Air,” said Erich Bach, Lucid’s Senior Vice President of Product and Chief Engineer. He added that the five-star rating was anticipated, given Lucid’s use of high-strength, lightweight materials and its engineering processes.
According to Lucid, one key element in the Air’s safety is its battery pack design, which contributes to the vehicle’s structural strength. The battery is encased within the car’s frame, providing added reinforcement in side-impact situations and enhancing overall crash resilience.
Beyond passive safety features, the Lucid Air incorporates advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Every Lucid Air model comes standard with Lucid’s DreamDrive Premium ADAS, a suite of safety features that includes 3D Surround View Monitoring and a real-time Blind Spot Display.
The award comes as Lucid is preparing to expand its lineup with the introduction of the Gravity SUV, which is expected to enter production before the end of the year. To support this expansion, Lucid recently announced a share sale that is expected to raise approximately $1.6 billion. This was just two months after an investment of $1.5 billion from PIF.
