Workers at Lucid have achieved a significant win in their efforts to unionize, resulting in a $250,000 back pay settlement, job reinstatements, and a cease-and-desist order against Lucid for unfair labour practices
The dispute began in 2023 when Lucid fired three employees involved in union organizing activities. These dismissals, coupled with other anti-union measures, prompted the United Auto Workers (UAW) to file unfair labour practice charges. The severity of Lucid’s actions led the NLRB to pursue a rare 10(j) injunction against the company, forcing Lucid to reinstate the workers on an interim basis while the case was under review.
The final settlement, approved by the National Labour Relations Board (NLRB) on December 31, not only mandates financial compensation but also prohibits Lucid from engaging in a range of anti-union behaviors, including surveilling employees, confiscating union materials, and threatening workers involved in organizing activities.
“This settlement paves the way for a better future at Lucid. Instead of resisting our rights, the company should collaborate with us to build a stronger workplace,” said Lucid employee Amie Hansen, one of the workers who was fired and who received $120,000 in back pay.
As part of the settlement, Lucid will also distribute a video outlining the workers’ rights and the terms of the agreement. This video, recorded by an NLRB representative, will be shown at Lucid’s factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, within two weeks of the ruling.
Physical notices detailing the settlement and employee rights will also be posted throughout Lucid’s workplaces.
