Jaguar Issues Another I-Pace Recall For Ongoing Battery Fire Risks

Jaguar Land Rover North America has issued yet another recall for its I-Pace electric SUVs. This latest recall warns owners of 2019 I-Pace vehicles not to drive them and to park outdoors and away from structures due to a heightened risk of battery fires.

According to the recall documents posted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, this recall affects 2,760 vehicles in the United States and follows a long series of previous recalls for the same issue. Despite multiple software updates designed to prevent battery overheating, incidents of fires have continued to occur, leading to another recall, with drivers warned not to drive their cars.

The problem lies in the high-voltage batteries supplied by LG Energy Solution (LGES), which have been linked to thermal overloads that can lead to fires. Although previous recalls aimed to address these concerns through diagnostic software updates, the latest incidents indicate that these fixes have been insufficient, as Jaguar Land Rover has reported three fires in the United States following the previous software updates.

In response, Jaguar has advised owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures. This is intended to mitigate the risk of fire until a permanent fix can be developed and implemented. The company has also temporarily limited the battery’s maximum state of charge to 80%.

This recall comes at a time when Jaguar is transitioning to an all-electric brand by 2025. The company has ended production of all its internal combustion engine vehicles in preparation for the shift.
