Hyundai unlocks 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in 2025 with free NACS adapters

Hyundai has announced it will start offering free North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters to its customers beginning in Q1 2025, opening up 20,000 Superchargers across Canada and the US.

The year is ending on a good note for many Hyundai EV owners, as the automaker announces it will start offering free NACS adaptors to its electric vehicle (EV) owners. This move will allow them to use Tesla’s critically acclaimed Superchargers. According to an official release, the deal is available to current or new owners buying or leasing their vehicles before January 31, 2025. Interrestingly, the press release was specific to the US, but mentioned 20,000 Superchargers, which covers both Canada and the US. We have reached out to Hyundai for clarification.

Owners of the KONA Electric, IONIQ hatchback, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6 from the 2024 model year and earlier can claim the adapters. The 2025 editions of the IONIQ 6, IONIQ 5 N, and KONA Electric will also qualify. The 2025 IONIQ 5 wouldn’t need the adapter as it is factory-fitted with NACS ports.

With NACS adapters, American Hyundai EV drivers’ public charging prospect will expand to more than 38,000 fast DC chargers, including Combined Charged System (CCS) charging stations.

Hyundai will provide more details on claiming the free adapters in 2025 and instructions for future purchases.

According to Olabisi Boyle, SVP of product planning and mobility strategy at Hyundai Motor North America, “To accelerate EV adoption, we started by listening to our current owners. These adapters will make DC fast-charging more convenient for current owners. Plus, the NACS port on new models like the upcoming IONIQ 9, along with improvements to our digital charging ecosystem, will further enhance the customer experience for future EV drivers. Our goal is to make the transition to electric seamless.”

The US government is set to adopt the NACS charging standard to unify and streamline the nation’s charging infrastructure.
