Hyundai joins the Tesla Supercharger network in Canada & the U.S. [Update]

Hyundai is the latest automaker to plug into Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network in the United States. Starting today, March 25, 2025, U.S. owners of the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, KONA Electric, and IONIQ Electric hatchback—can access more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers using a complimentary North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter.

According to Hyundai, owners who purchased or leased their vehicles on or before January 31, 2025, will receive an email starting the week of April 7 with instructions to claim their free adapter. Upcoming Hyundai EVs, like the refreshed 2025 IONIQ 5 and future models including the 2026 IONIQ 9, will come equipped with built-in NACS charge ports, eliminating the need for adapters entirely.

However, while this announcement brings good news to U.S. Hyundai owners, Canadian customers are still in the dark. Hyundai Canada has yet to release any equivalent plan or timeline for Supercharger access. In a brief note at the end of the U.S. press release, the company said it will provide further details, both for Supercharger access and NACS adapter availability, “later this year.”

UPDATE 1:10pm PT: Despite the press release being specific to the U.S. market, and saying that Canadian Supercharger access and adapter availability will be announced “later this year,” Hyundai Canada has confirmed with us that Canadian Hyundai EV owners do in fact have access to the Supercharger network. “As of today, Hyundai EV owners in Canada do have access to a network of Tesla Supercharger stations across North America,” a Hyundai Canada spokesperson told Drive Tesla.

What’s interesting with the announcement is the mention of 20,000 Superchargers, a number which includes Superchargers in both the U.S. and Canada. This presumably means U.S. Hyundai EV owners will be able to access Canadian Superchargers, but Canadian Hyundai EV owners will not. We have reached out to Hyundai for clarification and will update this article when we receive a response.

Hyundai joins a growing list of automakers integrating with Tesla’s charging infrastructure. Ford, General Motors, Rivian, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, and others have already announced plans or begun offering Supercharger access. Tesla says the next automakers to gain access to the Supercharger network will be BMW, JLR, Kia, Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Volkswagen , VW), Audi, and Porsche.
