Houston’s first Tesla-powered homes sparks buyer frenzy

The Tesla brand might be facing backlash from Elon Musk’s work for the current government, but it is not enough to turn people away from the company’s products. When Utopia Homes announced a group of homes powered by Tesla energy products in Texas, interest came from all over the US and outside the country.

The 11 houses, located in the Oaks of Shady Acres subdivision in Houston Heights, are fitted with Tesla-branded solar roofs, electric vehicle chargers, and Powerwall batteries. The setup will help homeowners prevent blackouts when the state’s energy grid goes down, which could last days.

According to Jamie Fallon, a property broker based in Houston who spoke to Realtor.com, potential buyers are putting aside their feelings for Musk and making practical choices. She says, “Who cares who is in office when you don’t have power? Houston has had a huge issue with electricity because we’re not on the national grid. So when we lose power, we’re out for five days.”

Only four of the homes remain despite costing significantly more than the city’s median house prices. The larger version costs $544,900, while the smaller ones are $524,000.

Utopia Homes markets the residential buildings as follows: “Step into modern elegance expertly crafted by Utopia Homes. This property showcases groundbreaking Tesla Solar Roof Shingles and Power Wall technology, ensuring 100% energy security and eliminating electric bills for a truly sustainable lifestyle. Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with 24/7 power outage protection.”
