General Motors has achieved a major milestone in its electric vehicle (EV) journey, posting its best-ever EV sales month in July 2025. The automaker delivered more than 19,000 electric vehicles in the U.S., marking a 115% year-over-year increase and signaling growing momentum in the non-Tesla EV segment.
Leading GM’s success is the Chevrolet Equinox EV, which sold over 8,500 units last month. That figure not only represents the compact SUV’s best monthly performance to date but also establishes it as the bestselling non-Tesla EV ever the in U.S.
The Equinox EV’s rising popularity reflects a significant shift in consumer behavior. Positioned as an affordable and practical option for mass-market buyers, the electric crossover offers up to 319 miles (514 km) of range and starts at just under US$35,000.
With the Bolt EV on hiatus, but set to return next year, the Equinox has emerged as GM’s most accessible EV, qualifying for a $7,500 federal tax credit — at least until those incentives expire on September 30.
While the Equinox EV dominated GM’s July numbers, other models also contributed to the company’s electric growth. Overall, EV sales across Cadillac and GMC were up significantly in the second quarter. Cadillac had a strong showing, with nearly 25% of its total sales being electric in the first half of 2025 — the highest EV share among luxury brands, according to GM.
