Tesla had a big week this week. First on Wednesday they had their Q3 2019 earnings call where they announced big revenue and profits. Then on Friday they announced V3 of the Tesla Solar Roof Tile (Solarglass).
On the heels of that news, it now appears that Tesla’s Gigafactory 1 in Reno, Nevada is finally getting some more solar panels on its roof. In August of 2018, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced plans to having the factory run entirely on renewable energy by the end of 2019. As we approach that date, it is great to see some progress, but it is unlikely that Tesla will be able to meet that original deadline.
Reno is a great place for solar, as it gets on average 252 sunny days each year. The 13 million square foot plant will be capable of housing a 70 MW solar system, more than enough energy to power the factory.
Twitter user Nafnlaus keenly spotted the change on Google aerial images, showing additional solar panels have already been installed.
