German retail giant Rossman has announced it is cutting business ties with Tesla. The former had been electrifying its operations but will no longer add Tesla’s electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet, with the company citing CEO Elon Musk’s recent political leanings as the reason behind the shift.
In a statement, Rossman said the decision was made because of the conflict between Musk’s statements and the values Tesla claims to represent. CEO Raoul Rossmann said, “Elon Musk makes no secret of his support for Donald Trump. Trump has repeatedly called climate change a hoax—this attitude is in stark contrast to Tesla’s mission to contribute to environmental protection through the production of electric cars.”
Rossmann said it will continue to use its current stock of Teslas for the sake of sustainability and resource conservation. However, it will look to other EV makers for future purchases.
Musk recently declared his support for Donald Trump, who is contending for a second stint as president of the US. Trump has been known to openly oppose EVs, but that has reportedly not stopped Musk from pledging millions of dollars monthly to ensure Trump’s re-election.
Rossmann has a massive presence in the European pharmacy retail market. It operates more than 4,000 outlets in nine countries.
