First look at the regular Tesla Cybertruck: differences from the Foundation Series

Tesla opened orders of the standard, non-Foundation Series Cybertruck in the US on Thursday night, bringing the price of the electric truck down US$20,000. Along with a number of accessories and add-ons that are no longer included with the Cybertruck, there are also a number of production changes as well.

Even though orders only opened around 12 hours ago, it didn’t take long for the first photos of non-Foundation Series Cybertrucks to appear. The photos, first shared by Cybertruck enthusiast and owners @greggertruck, show a Cybertruck that looks distinct from the Foundation Series edition, and as expected, has been pared down in certain areas to reduce cost and production complexity.

From the outside the most noticeable difference is the lack of the “Foundation Series” badging, that we all knew was going to disappear when general production started. There is another change that is not as visible, and that is to the bed, where there are no longer any bed rings included for regular Cybertruck buyers.

There are also some changes to the interior. The steering wheel, referred to as a ‘squircle’ because of its unique shape, has different silver finishes, along with a new ‘Airbag’ label, although these changes will only be apparent to hardcore Cybertruck enthusiasts.

The center console in the footwell of the truck has also been changed, no longer having an included silver inlay. Interestingly, Tesla is still affixing the accelerator pedal cover with a rivet, a solution it implemented to fix an issue for the cover sliding off that resulted in a recall.

Tesla began sending out invitations to configure the standard Cybertruck orders last night, and the first deliveries are expected to start this month. This timing puts the first deliveries of the standard Cybertruck potentially starting before deliveries of the Foundation Series start in Canada.

As we suggested in our article last night, the regular Cybertruck won’t arrive in Canada until some time in 2025, as confirmed by lead engineer Wes Morrill on X this morning.
