The first shipment of German-made vehicles has reached the west coast of Canada. Late last week and into the weekend dozens of Model Ys arrived at the newly-opened Coquitlam Service Center in British Columbia. Deliveries to customers are expected to begin later this week, after inspections and vehicle prep are completed, marking the first time Giga Berlin vehicles will be handed over to buyers in Western Canada.
This latest shipment, the second to leave Germany, arrived in Halifax on October 13, before making the long journey west by rail. It follows the initial batch, which landed in Canada in early September, but which was allocated for customers in Ontario and Quebec.
With this second shipment now in place, Tesla is poised to open up deliveries in western Canada. UPDATE 10:57am PT: One of our readers has a delivery appointment for Monday afternoon!

Why Tesla is now importing Model Y from Germany instead of the U.S. or China comes down to tariffs and pricing. In recent months and years, importing from Fremont (U.S.) or Giga Shanghai (China) became economically challenging for Canada due to a 100% tariff on China-built EVs, and then a 25% tariff on U.S.-built EVs, which resulted in prices increasing by more than 20%.
Shifting supply to Germany sidesteps those tariffs. The result is that Tesla was able to cut Model Y pricing by $20,000 to $64,990—$5,000 below pre-tariff levels—bringing the popular electric SUV back into reach for many buyers.
So far, Canadian customers can order the Model Y Long Range, while the Performance variant—now produced at Giga Berlin—hasn’t appeared in Canada’s configurator. Even so, Berlin’s ramp has improved fit-and-finish and paint consistency, and buyers in eastern Canada have praised the vehicle’s build quality as far superior compared to Fremont, and even Giga Shanghai.
With vehicles now staged at Coquitlam, customers in Metro Vancouver and the surrounding areas should see estimated delivery dates update in their Tesla app as local logistics teams complete inspections and prep.
