Subway has announced plans to install electric vehicle (EV) fast charging stations at their restaurants across the US. Billed as the “EV Charging Oasis of the future,” the stations will be built through a new partnership with GenZ EV Solutions.
The rollout will take place over several years, with Subway saying the first charging stations will start appearing this year. The first ‘Subway Oasis’ will be a smaller-format station that will be piloted at select new or newly remodeled restaurants in the US starting in 2023.
The company will later install larger format stations that will include charging canopies, green space, and playgrounds for kids.
No details on the number of charging stations, charging speeds, or the prices to plug in were provided, but the company did show at least 8 stalls in a render included in their press release. Subway also said that EV drivers may also benefit from Subway promotions only available when using one of their charging stations.
“We’re constantly exploring new ways to innovate and exceed our guests’ expectations for a high-quality, convenient experience. Our partnership with GenZ EV Solutions is a win for our guests, our franchisees and our planet, creating a dedicated space for drivers to charge their vehicle while enjoying their favorite Subway sandwich,” said Mike Kappitt, Chief Operating and Insights Officer of Subway.
According to GenZ EV Solutions they will be working with RED E Charging “to provide proprietary software, with immense uptime and reliability, as well as operating expertise for the EV charging stations and Subway Oasis.”
