Elon Musk sheds light on how ‘Download FSD’ button will work

Last week Tesla CEO Elon Musk raised the hopes of every owner who has already purchased the Full Self-Driving (FSD) option. In a series of tweets Musk said the company would be expanding the FSD beta program by as much as 10X in the coming weeks, and if you were interested in joining all you had to do was to let them know.

The confusing part was he didn’t provide details on how to do that. After Service Centers were flooded with requests, Musk changed course saying a ‘Download FSD’ would appear on vehicles in about 10 days.

That only raised questions again – does everyone get the button? How will the button appear? Do I get FSD beta immediately after pressing the button? Responding to Tesla fan @WholeMarsCatalog on Twitter asking what the button will do, Musk says all eligible vehicles will be able to download the latest QA tested FSD build after connecting to WiFi.

He also reset the timeline for when the button will appear, saying it would be after the completion of FSD beta v8.3 QA testing, hopefully by the end of next week.

Unfortunately it looks like Canadians will be left out of the FSD beta button frenzy for now. Musk said over the weekend a release in Canada should happen “very soon”, with the delay the result of subtle differences between U.S. and Canadian roads.
