Audi partners with China’s FAW to produce premium EVs

Audi and the Chinese state-owned FAW Group are planning to join forces to produce premium electric vehicles (EVs) in China.

In an announcement this week, Audi said it has signed a memorandum of understanding that will see the German automaker add more EV choices in the world’s biggest car market.

The joint venture will take a few years to get started, with plans calling for manufacturing to begin in 2024, reports Reuters.

The new EVs will be premium models based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The EV platform was designed and developed in cooperation with Porsche.

Audi confirmed there are no plans for any Porsche EVs to be produced under the agreement.

Don’t hold your breath for these new EVs to make their way to North America, as they will be developed strictly for the Chinese market only.
