Amazon agrees to purchase 100K electric delivery vans by 2024

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced this morning plans to purchase 100,000 electric delivery vans from Michigan based Rivian, a record-setting deal as the largest order to date of any electric delivery vehicles. You might recognize the name Rivian as they are taking pre-order for their electric pick-up truck, the R1T, which looks like it may come to market before the Tesla pick-up truck.

Amazon’s plans to convert their entire delivery fleet to 100% renewable energy by 2030, a full 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement of 2040. Amazon already has 40% of its delivery fleet on renewable energy.

Amazon expects to have the first of the Rivian delivery vehicles on the road by 2021, with over 10,000 by 2022, and the full deployment of the 100,000 order by 2024.
