Tesla has officially started taking order for the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) in South Korea. While the automaker has now expanded the Model Y lineup in the country to three variants, all three variants of the Model 3 are no longer available to order.
Back in May we told you that Tesla Korea had secured an environmental certificate for the Model Y RWD manufactured at Giga Shanghai, China, hinting at its imminent launch. Nearly two months later and Tesla updated their Design Studio in the country to add the entry-level variant.
According to the online configurator the Model Y RWD starts at ₩59,990,000 (C$59,000/US$45,100). At this price point the electric SUV also qualifies for Korean government and local government subsidies, reducing the price further. (h/t: @Tslachan)
The first deliveries are expected in August or September.
While Korean Tesla fans were excited to see the Model Y RWD added to the website, they were disappointed to see the entire Model 3 lineup is no longer available to order. The online configurator still lists the RWD, Long Range, and Performance variants, but the order button for all three has been greyed out. Prospective buyers are now simply given the option to sign up to receive updates for when it will become available again. Tesla used to import the Model 3 from Giga Shanghai into Korea.
