Tesla lowers prices in North America, adds 4680 Model Y to Design Studio in US

Tesla has lowered prices on many of its vehicles on Thursday night, with the price changes impacting both Canadian and US buyers. Along with the price cuts, Tesla has also finally added the Giga Texas built Model Y with 4680 cells to the Design Studio in the US.

Tesla first launched the 4680 Model Y one year ago almost to the day, delivering the first vehicles to employees on April 7, 2022 at the Giga Texas Cyber Rodeo party. The electric SUV was only available in limited quantities, first to employees, then to existing Long Range reservation holders, before it was added to existing inventory several months later. The limited availability was due to a slower than expected 4680 production ramp at Kato Rd and Giga Texas.

That production ramp appears to have picked up enough speed that Tesla has added this variant to its Design Studio so that anyone in the US can now order it. Unfortunately it is still not available to Canadian buyers.

The specs of the 4680 Model Y AWD haven’t changed, and it still comes with 279 miles (449km) of range, but the price has dropped from $51,990 USD to $49,990 USD. The Long Range and Performance variants of the Model Y also saw a $2,000 price drop to now start at $52,990 USD and $56,990 USD respectively.

There were no price changes to the Model Y in Canada.

The Model S and Model X both saw significant price drops in Canada and the US. The Model X Plaid is now a whopping $33,610 cheaper in Canada today than it was at the start of the year after two successive price drops.

There were no changes to Model 3 pricing in Canada, but the RWD and Performance did each receive $1,000 price drops in the US. The Long Range variant is still not available to order on the Design Studio.

Here is a breakdown of all the other price changes for Canada and the US.
