Norway already has the highest rate of electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the world. If the trend over the last few years continues the country is on track to phase out new gas car sales in just 7 months – nearly 3 years ahead of what was already the world’s most ambitious target.
If EV sales in September are any indication, they may even reach that target before April 2022. If they do, Tesla will have a lot to do with it.
According to sales data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), the Model Y was the best-selling vehicle in Norway in September. The electric SUV accounted for 19.8% of all new car sales.
The Model 3 took second place with 12.3% of sales. The Skoda Enyaq came in a distant third making up 4.4% of new car sales, reports Reuters.
The dominating performance by Tesla propelled Norway’s EV market share in September to 77.5% of all new cars sold, up from 61.5% in the same month last year.
