Toyota’s bZ4X name could be on the chopping block, and we could see a change as early as next year. This is at least according to a regional director for Toyota Canada in Quebec in a recent sit down with Canada’s automotive media.
Patrick Ryan, Toyota Canada’s Quebec regional director, said this week at a press event the Toyota electric SUV will be rebranded as soon as 2025, but did not confirm which model year the change would take effect.
The bZ4X was a new take on car naming for the company, and for many, the idea came up short. The company wanted to have its EV lineup be called Beyond Zero, with the X referencing the fact that the vehicle was a crossover and the 4 representing the size of the vehicle.
However, the fact that you needed an explainer on the name is probably a sign that Toyota missed the mark. So, the possible renaming should come as no surprise.
Ryan did not provide the Canadian media reps with any other details, such as the new name or even a hint about it. Nor did he confirm whether it is a regional change or across the board.
However, even if they added EV or some other moniker at the end of their successful ICE vehicle names, it would certainly go better than the launch of the bZ4X.
