Tesla Cars Are Hollywood’s Favorite EVs, Appearing Most Often on Screen

Tesla changed the automobile industry forever with its electric vehicles. Over the past two decades, they have gained high popularity, including in Hollywood, appearing on screen the most times of any other electric vehicle.

The data comes from a study conducted by the UK’s Auto Trader, revealing that Tesla cars are Hollywood’s favorite electric car. Auto Trader has compiled a list of more than 100 of the most popular electric vehicle models worldwide and cross-referenced it with on-screen appearance data from the Internet Movie Car Database, according to digg. The cars were then ranked according to the number of listed appearances. This data is accurate as of January 2024.

The results of the study showed that Tesla cars are the favorites of Hollywood. Among all, Model S appeared on screen most often. Over the years, the car has made 419 appearances, including in “Ozark,” “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” “The Girl on the Train” and “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Model 3 was the third most popular EV, appearing on screens 167 times. Model X has been spotted 149 times, while the original Roadster has been spotted 46 times. Model Y has only appeared 38 times, although this may change in the coming years.

In addition to the number of screen appearances, the Auto Trader study also calculated the amount of time each electric vehicle was on screen. Here, Honda E was in the lead. Tesla Roadster was in 4th place, while Model X, Model S, Model Y, and Model 3 were in 5th, 6th, 13th, and 19th places, respectively.

Having cars on screen has a big impact, making them more attractive to consumers, said Auto Trader Editorial Director Erin Baker. Considering that Tesla does not use traditional advertising, appearances in movies, music videos, and TV shows really attract attention to its cars.

“What we see on screen has significant power in influencing our lifestyle choices, even affecting our big purchasing decisions. This is particularly true for cars, with the silver screen spotlight managing to make cars look sleeker and more appealing than ever. “We’re thrilled to see that so many electric vehicles have been featured in hugely popular shows and blockbuster movies, with exposure like this crucial in helping to pave the way towards a greener future and sparking a collective shift towards electric vehicles,” Baker said.
