Tesla raises Model 3 and Model Y prices in China for the second time in less than one week

Tesla has adjusted its Model 3 and Model Y pricing in China on Tuesday, increasing prices for both vehicles for the second time in less than one week. Last Thursday the automaker increased prices on the Long Range (LR) variants of the electric sedan and electric SUV, while today the price increases affected the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variants.

According to an update to Tesla’s Design Studio in China, the Model 3 RWD now starts at ¥261,400 (C$49,520/US$35,800), an increase of ¥1,500 ($285/US$205). Meanwhile the Model Y RWD has seen a bigger increase, with the online configurator now listing a starting price of ¥266,400 (C$50,400/US$36,500), up ¥2,500 (C$473/US$342) from its previous price.

These are the same amounts Tesla increased the LR variants of the Model 3 and Model Y by last week.

For the Model 3, this is the first time Tesla has adjusted the price of the RWD variant since launching the new design in September. Despite getting some upgrades to both the exterior and the interior, the Model 3 RWD is still cheaper in China than it has been for the better part of a year and a half. In May 2022 the entry-level version of the Model 3 reached a high of ¥279,900 (C$53,000/US$38,300). There is still no Model 3 Performance available in China since the launch of the refresh.

While the Model 3 got a substantial refresh in September, the Model Y got a more modest update in October. Tesla surprised us all by updating the dash with a new material like that found in the new Model 3, new RGB lighting on the dash, as well as updating the 19″ Gemini wheels with a new darker colour and darker aero cover, which the company calls ‘Metallic Shadow.”
