Tesla is probably most-well known for its self-driving capabilities like Autopilot and Navigate on Autopilot (NoA). While the former is included in the purchase price of any new Tesla, the latter comes with a hefty price tag on top of the price of the vehicle.
That current $9,000 + tax price tag in Canada for the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package may one day be a little easier to handle in the future, if elements hidden in Tesla’s source code are anything to go by.
Tesla hacker @greentheonly has revealed that inside Tesla’s source code is the option for a “pay-as-you-go” FSD subscription plan.

According to @greentheonly, he discovered the source code for this option about a year ago, but has seen nothing further on it since, and suspects it will be released when the timing is right for Tesla.
A pay-as-you-go subscription option would be a great way for Tesla to open up a new source of revenue. For many, the initial price tag, especially in Canada at over $10,000 after taxes, is too much to justify the purchase. But with a low-cost entry point, many more Tesla owners would purchase the FSD suite of features.
What would be even better is if you could purchase the individual features of FSD separately. That way, if you only wanted NoA, you could purchase that feature for a lower price than the full bundle of features. Unfortunately @greentheonly confirmed to Drive Tesla Canada that option was not present in the source code.
To help new Tesla owners in China afford the FSD option, they recently started offering a 0% 3 year loan on the purchase price of FSD.
