Two of the more unique accessories for the Rivian R1T, the Camp Kitchen and the Gear Tunnel Shuttle, have been pulled from the online shop. The two products have long been advertised by the automaker as “coming soon,” but there have been no deliveries to customers yet, and it might still be a while until there is one.
The Rivian R1T comes with a unique opening that runs the width of the electric truck between the rear seats and the bed of the truck, known as the Gear Tunnel. This creates a useful storage area, but Rivian wanted to make it even more useful with the Gear Tunnel Shuttle, an accessory that slides in and out of the Gear Tunnel for easy loading and unloading of items.
Building on the Gear Tunnel Shuttle, the automaker was also planning on offering a Camp Kitchen, which as the name implies was a module that fit inside the Gear Tunnel and on top of the shuttle that featured a cooktop, a removable kitchen sink, a 4-gallon water tank and ample counter space.
However in October last year the automaker said it was “temporarily pausing production” of both products to redesign them. The listings on the online shop remained with a message that they would be “coming soon,” but on Wednesday that changed and the products were removed from the online shop entirely, as first spotted by the folks over at the Rivian Forums.
When you attempt to access either product (Gear Tunnel Shuttle & Camp Kitchen) from the direct link, you now simply get redirected to the main page of Rivian’s Gear Shop.
Drive Tesla reached out to Rivian for comment, and fortunately it looks like both products will still be released, but it will be longer than they were originally anticipating back in October, and they may not look anything like they did before they were pulled.
“As we continue the work of delivering vehicles to our customers as quickly as possible, we’ve made the decision to halt production of the current versions of the built-in Camp Kitchen and Gear Tunnel Shuttle. We’re exploring updated designs and will offer adventure-ready cooking solutions for our vehicles in the future,” a spokesperson said.
