Work on second Las Vegas Boring Company tunnel begins

Last month Elon Musk’s Boring Company completed their first tunnel under the Las Vegas Convention Centre (LVCC). The 4,475ft tunnel took just 3 months to complete, and now work has begun on a second parallel tunnel this week.

After the first tunnel was completed in February, crews had to remove the drill and completely take it apart so that it could be transported back to the starting point. Once there, crews lowered it into 40ft hole, and have begun reassembling it piece by piece in preparation for the second tunnel’s construction.

Once the drill has been reassembled, it will begin digging away at the dirt at a rate of about 100ft per day.

The entire project, which is estimated to cost around $52.5 million USD, is expected to be complete before the next CES show in January 2021. It will feature both above-ground and underground stations, and be able to transport people from one end of the LVCC grounds to the other in just over one minute in a fleet of electric Tesla vehicles.
