If you are still eagerly anticipating the wide release of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta software, CEO Elon Musk provided his latest update on when owners can expect “the button” to appear in their vehicles.
The current set of beta testers are running V9.2 of the software in their cars, which was released last week. According to Musk, the next version to come out will be V10, which will be deployed to vehicles at midnight on Friday, September 3, 2021.
Musk said the new version number will feature “a completely retrained NN”. As a result, additional training from the beta testers and bug fixes from the development team will be needed before a public release can happen.
Based on that timeline, Musk is now predicting “the button” will show up in vehicles in about four weeks, or in late September or early October.
As always, Musk’s timelines should be taken with caution, especially when it comes to the wide release of FSD. The CEO was hoping to release “the button” to a large number of Tesla owners sometime in March, then delaying it until at least April, then again pushing it to “hopefully” May.
We should be there with Beta 10, which goes out a week from Friday (no point release this week).
It will have a completely retrained NN, so will need another few weeks after that for tuning & bug fixes. Best guess is public beta button in ~4 weeks.
