SpaceX revealed on Tuesday that Starlink has already received more than 500,000 orders for their satellite internet service.
The figure was announced by SpaceX operations engineer Siva Bharadvaj during coverage for the launch of the 26th Starlink mission earlier today.
“To date, over half a million people have placed an order or put down a deposit for Starlink.”
It is important to note that figure does not represent active users who are paying $129 CAD ($99 USD) per month. In February the company noted in a regulatory filing that the number of active users in Canada, the US, and abroad was more than 10,000.
Elon Musk commented on the number, saying it was “most likely” all of those 500,000 customers will eventually receive service.
Nonetheless it is an impressive statistic for Starlink, which began its “Better Than Nothing” beta testing program just over 6 months ago.
SpaceX recently received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to modify their license in order to operate more of their satellites in a low-earth orbit. The company now has more than 1,500 satellites in orbit after another successful launch of 60 satellites earlier today, which you can watch below.
