Tesla has officially announced plans to release a CCS charging adapter next year in South Korea, giving owners more options to charge their vehicles.
In an email sent today by Tesla Korea, the automaker says there are currently 33 Supercharger stations and more than 150 Destination chargers in the country. To “enhance the customer charging experience”, the automaker revealed a new CCS connector will be available in the first half of 2021. Here is a copy of the email translated into English, first posted to Reddit.
While the email is so far limited to owners on Korea, it is hoped the adapter will also be made available in other markets. Despite CCS being the standard for DC fast chargers in North America, the automaker has yet to release an adapter that would allow Tesla owners to use them.
Many DC fast charging stations also have a CHAdeMO connector, for which Tesla has released an adapter in North America. Its popularity has been limited though due to its high price tag and bulky size.
This new CCS adapter is much smaller in size, and appears to be similar in size to the J1772 adapter that is included with vehicle purchases.
