Future Tesla vehicles may be getting a big boost in the gaming department as a new leak suggests the automaker may switch to AMD’s new ‘Big Navi’ GPUs.
Tesla originally used Nvidia’s Tegra mobile chips for the media control unit (MCU) on its vehicles, before eventually switching to Intel-based x86 processors.
Now it looks like the automaker is going to be making another switch soon as a new leak suggests Tesla will start using AMD’s new Navi chips for it’s onboard computers.

While the above tweet might not seem like much, Shur has a proven track record when it comes to leaks regarding AMD. To back up his claim, he also included some blueprints for the ‘Navi 23’ which were officially stamped by Tesla. After users pointed out this could compromise his sources, Shur deleted the images.
“Groundbreaking AMD RDNA 2 gaming architecture delivers up to 2X higher performance and up to 54 per cent higher performance-per-watt compared to AMD RDNA-based graphics cards,” AMD says in a press statement describing its new Navi chips.
First announced in October, AMD’s new chips are not only more powerful, but also cheaper than both the Nvidia and Intel offerings. The improved performance should help Tesla expand on its current selection of gaming and entertainment options in its vehicles. Could we finally see games like Grand Theft Auto and other console-quality games in Tesla vehicles?
