According to the latest sales numbers, Toyota has seen a 79% year-over-year increase in Q1 sales of its bZ crossover. The vehicle is moving well and, through the first quarter of this year, has already moved over 10,000 units in the US.
Toyota has embraced a strategy to buy a share of the EV market, as the brand had lagged behind Ford, Chevrolet and Tesla in BEV sales for years. This strategy has included aggressive pricing and incentives for dealers to move units.
For the bZ, the sales renaissance has been a welcome change. Toyota invested significant capital and energy to revamp the vehicle, bumper-to-bumper, for the 2026 model year. This revamp included a price drop on the base model, a name change, improved cold weather charging, and a bump in the maximum range to 314 miles (505 km). When combined with the public trust of the Japanese automaker, the bZ is in a position to turn some heads.
However, for Toyota, it is not just the bZ that they are focusing on. The company has invested in their EV lineup and is presenting prospective owners with multiple vehicles, including the bZ Woodland, the C-HR and the upcoming Highlander.
Least to say, Toyota might be the brand to watch for EVs in 2026, and if they can take a significant chunk of the EV market, we may see Ford and others forced to respond.
