Tesla Robotaxi Base Price in Austin Jumps as Riders Demand Wider Availability

For the first time in over six months, Tesla has increased the ride fare on its Robotaxi rides in Austin, Texas. Although the auto company did not publicly announce the change, Tesla enthusiasts quickly noticed the updated pricing.

The news was shared on X by Robotaxi Tracker, a platform that provides live data on autonomous vehicle updates.

Previously, the starting price for a Robotaxi ride in Austin was about $1. However, with the price adjustment, the base price has now risen to $3.25, bringing the cost of a 5-mile trip to about $8.25.

The post shared on X also included a chart showing the price trend over the past nine months. The price had maintained an equilibrium at $1 since October 2025.

Interestingly, the reactions to the news focused less on the price increase and more on concerns about availability. More people were interested in how quickly Tesla could expand the service’s reach. Some even compared the new price to other cab-hailing services like Uber and Lyft and found Robotaxi’s cheaper.

Regarding Robotaxi expansion, efforts appear to be underway to fast-track growth in North America. Earlier this year, Tesla confirmed that two new cities in Florida are next in line for the autonomous cab-hailing expansion. Meanwhile, Waymo (formerly the Google self-driving car project) and Uber also made huge investments, showing their focus on the autonomous cab-hailing expansion.
