SpaceX continues its expansion in Asia as the Vietnamese government grants approval to roll out Starlink. The permission comes after a trial period that started last year.
The Vietnamese internet provider market has formally welcomed Starlink. The authorities have given SpaceX the go-ahead to offer its satellite internet service in the Southeast Asian country. Trial operations commenced last year.
SpaceX also got approval to utilize radio frequencies and radio equipment, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology.
Meanwhile, there is no information yet on when the operation will actually go live. However, the approval could be seen as a fruit of trade deal negotiations currently going on between the US and Vietnam. The President Trump-led administration slapped a 20 percent tariff on imports from Vietnam last year.
Elon Musk’s Starlink is rapidly expanding. The service has attracted more than 10 million users. The growth has been nothing short of explosive, as SpaceX doubled its subscriber base in just a year.
SpaceX has also entered into an agreement with Airtel Africa to offer Direct-to-Cell satellite connectivity in key African markets. The company is also simplifying the sign-up process for its service by deploying Starlink vending machines. It also opened the first Starlink retail store in Nebraska late in 2025.
