Tesla unlocks northern Vancouver Island with new Supercharger under construction in Comox [British Columbia]

Tesla is pushing its Supercharger network further north on Vancouver Island, and one of the most important gaps on the island is finally being filled. A new V4 Supercharger is now under construction in Comox, making it the first Tesla Supercharger north of Nanaimo – a major upgrade for EV drivers heading into the island’s northern communities.

The new station is being built in the parking lot of Quality Foods at 2275 Guthrie Road in Comox. This is the same location Tesla has been teasing as a potential Supercharger location on their Find Us map since late 2024.

Now more than a year later and the site is finally coming to life. According to photos shared with Drive Tesla by one of our readers, Ben, the site appears mostly complete with eight V4 Supercharger stalls, each capable of delivering up to 325 kW of peak charging power for compatible EVs.

Until now, Tesla owners traveling beyond Nanaimo have been forced to rely on slower third-party chargers or carefully plan their trips around limited infrastructure. For drivers heading to places like Courtenay, Campbell River, or heading for skiing and snowboarding at Mount Washington, or the many other outdoor recreation areas further north, the lack of fast charging has been a real barrier. The Comox Supercharger finally changes that.

While it is a welcomed addition, the site is not perfectly positioned — it is located about 15 kilometres (15 minutes) off Highway 19. But even with the short detour, this Supercharger will dramatically expand how far north Tesla drivers can travel without range anxiety.

Tesla is also planning other Superchargers on Vancouver Island, with sites in Courtenay, Nanaimo (North), and Ucluelet currently listed as ‘in development’ on Tesla’s map.
