Tesla’s Model Y has once again claimed the title of Europe’s best-selling car — not just among electric vehicles, but across all segments — marking a strong rebound for the automaker after months of fluctuating rankings.
According to new data from Dataforce, the electric SUV topped the charts in September 2025 with 25,938 units sold, reclaiming the number 1 position for the first time since January. (via Automotive News)
Despite an 8.6% year-over-year decline, the Model Y’s performance was enough to outpace even traditional combustion-powered rivals such as the Renault Clio (20,146) and Dacia Sandero (19,200), which rounded out the top three.
A Rollercoaster Year for the Model Y
The Model Y’s sales trajectory in Europe has been anything but steady this year. After finishing second in June, it tumbled to 60th place in July before climbing back to 17th in August. September’s rebound to the top spot demonstrates Tesla’s ability to recover quickly — aided by renewed production efficiency at its Giga Berlin factory and targeted price adjustments earlier in the year.
The Model Y’s success also reflects Tesla’s dominance in the electric SUV segment, where few competitors can match its blend of range, technology, and brand recognition. However, fluctuating consumer demand and regional EV incentive changes have made the market more volatile than ever.
A Strong Signal for Tesla
While the Dacia Sandero still leads the year-to-date tally, Tesla’s September comeback shows that the Model Y remains a formidable force in Europe’s mainstream market. With Giga Berlin’s output expanding and Full Self-Driving poised for a European debut, Tesla could be poised for another strong finish to the year — and possibly reclaim the title of Europe’s top-selling vehicle overall by year’s end.
