Tesla has reached a major milestone in Türkiye, announcing that more than 50,000 people now own a Tesla in the country. The achievement comes in under three years since the company delivered its very first vehicle to Turkish customers, highlighting how quickly the automaker has taken root in one of the world’s fastest-growing electric vehicle (EV) markets.
Rapid Growth in a Competitive Market
Tesla entered Türkiye in 2023 with the launch of the Model Y, and the response from consumers has been swift and overwhelming. In August this year, Tesla sold 8,730 Model Y units—an 86% increase from July—making it the second-best selling auto brand in the country overall, behind only Renault.
According to the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), Tesla also secured nearly half of Türkiye’s EV market share that month, outpacing legacy automakers like Fiat, Volkswagen, Toyota, and Hyundai.
From January through August this year, Tesla delivered approximately 26,000 cars in Türkiye, quadrupling its sales compared to the same period in 2024. That momentum has now propelled the company to the 50,000-owner milestone.

Why Tesla Is Resonating With Turkish Buyers
Several factors explain Tesla’s rapid success in Türkiye. Consumer interest in EVs has surged, with battery-powered vehicles now accounting for about 20% of all auto sales—up from just 8% last year. Government incentives and shifting consumer preferences toward greener mobility are helping accelerate this trend.
The Model Y’s affordability has also played a central role. Tesla strategically limited the power output of the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) to 160kW, ensuring the vehicle qualifies for the lowest tier under Türkiye’s Special Consumption Tax (SCT). This adjustment keeps the Model Y more competitively priced, giving it an advantage not only over internal combustion rivals but also over many competing EVs.
