Tesla has officially begun customer deliveries in India, with Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik becoming the first owner of a Model Y in Mumbai. The handover took place on September 5 at the Tesla Experience Center in Bandra Kurla Complex, marking a major milestone for the automaker as it begins its presence in the Indian market.
The Bandra Kurla Complex showroom, which opened on July 15, was Tesla’s first retail outlet in India. Minister Sarnaik, who also attended the inauguration, returned to collect his white Model Y. He emphasized that he purchased the car at full price, without discounts, as an example to fellow buyers.

Since officially launching in India in July, reports indicate the company has secured approximately 600 orders for the Model Y, a low number driven by the high price due to the nearly 100% import duties.
Deliveries will now roll out across key markets including Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and Pune, with Tesla confirming that additional handovers will happen “soon.”

The automaker also opened a second Experience Center in New Delhi on August 11, located at Worldmark 3 in Aerocity, providing prospective buyers a chance to explore the Model Y in person.
Tesla is offering two versions of the Model Y in India:
- Model Y RWD: ₹59.89 lakh (C$97,000/US$71,800)
- Model Y Long Range RWD: ₹67.89 lakh (C$110,000/US$81,400)
Buyers can also opt for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) package for an additional ₹6 lakh (C$9,700/US$7,200).
