Toyota has officially unveiled the 2026 bZ, an updated version of its all-electric compact SUV formerly known as the bZ4X. The refresh brings improvements in driving range, performance, charging technology, and interior and exterior updates—all wrapped up behind a simpler name.
Increased Range
One of the most notable updates is a 25% increase in range for the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant. The 2026 bZ AWD XLE model is now rated for up to 460 km (285 miles) on a full charge, up from the previous 367 km (228 miles). The Limited AWD model follows closely with an estimated 430 km (267 miles) of range. Front-wheel-drive (FWD) buyers will see up to 378 km (235 miles) of range with a 57.7-kWh battery pack.
In the U.S. buyers can expect up to 314 miles (505 km) of range on select FWD models equipped with the larger 77-kWh battery pack.
Faster Charging with NACS Compatibility
For the 2026 model year Toyota has adopted the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, giving bZ owners access to Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network. DC fast charging capability allows the battery to replenish from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes under optimal conditions. The onboard AC charger has also been upgraded from 7 kW to 11 kW, significantly reducing home charging times.
A new battery pre-conditioning system is standard, a feature that will greatly improve charging times in harsh winter conditions.
Upgraded Performance
Performance also sees a meaningful boost. Thanks to improved eAxles utilizing silicon carbide semiconductors, AWD models now deliver a combined output of 338 horsepower, a 50% increase from the previous 214 hp. This allows the bZ AWD to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 5.1 seconds. FWD models see an increase to 168 hp.
Refreshed Design Inside and Out
Visually, the 2026 bZ receives subtle yet effective updates. The front fascia is sleeker, with slim LED daytime running lights integrated into a new front-end design. Body-coloured overfenders are now available, giving the SUV a more cohesive and sleeker appearance compared to its predecessor.
Inside, the cabin benefits from a redesigned dashboard and a larger 14-inch Toyota Multimedia touchscreen. Two wireless charging pads have been added to the reconfigured center console, while soft-touch materials along with customizable 64-colour ambient lighting.
Enhanced Comfort and Safety Features
Canadian models come well-equipped across XLE, XLE AWD, and Limited AWD trims. Standard features include SofTex-trimmed seats, heated steering wheel, dual wireless phone chargers, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced driver-assist technologies. The Limited AWD adds premium features such as a panoramic moonroof, JBL audio system, heated and ventilated seats, and additional driver assistance functions like Traffic Jam Assist and Advanced Park.
2026 Toyota bZ Availability
The 2026 Toyota bZ is expected to arrive in North American dealerships in the second half of 2025. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
