Lucid recalls all-weather floor mats for risk of unintended acceleration

Lucid has issued a new recall affecting 4,294 aftermarket all-weather floor mats sold for its Air electric sedan, due to a risk of unintended acceleration.

According to the recall documents posted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the issue stems from Lucid-branded floor mats—specifically, those without anchor points. These mats, sold as accessories through Lucid’s online store and retail outlets between November 2022 and December 2023, can shift out of position in the driver’s footwell and potentially trap the accelerator pedal.

If the pedal fails to return to idle, the vehicle may continue to accelerate, posing a serious crash risk.

Lucid’s investigation began in August 2024, after a sales associate in Europe experienced a momentary sticking of the accelerator during heavy acceleration. While the issue could not be immediately reproduced, Lucid continued to monitor field reports and customer feedback.

Then in February 2025, a U.S. customer reported a similar incident where the accelerator didn’t decompress while overtaking traffic. Vehicle telemetry supported the claim, prompting Lucid’s Product Safety Executive Council to conclude that the risk was credible and warranted a recall.

Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with the defect. However, Lucid is advising owners to immediately remove the unanchored floor mats from the driver’s side. The company will issue full refunds to customers who purchased the affected model mats, which have a model number ending in -00.

Replacement mats with proper anchor systems—part numbers ending in “-01”—are not affected and remain available for purchase.

The recalled mats were manufactured by Visscher-Caravelle and came in a range of colors to match Lucid’s Dream, GT, Touring, and Pure trims. While nibs on the mat’s underside were intended to keep them in place, the absence of a secure anchor mechanism ultimately led to the recall.
