Tesla has signed a contract to set up a servicing plant for Megapacks in Western Australia. The new facility is situated near the giant Collie battery project being developed by Noeon.
Tesla will service, repair, and renew its battery products in the factory. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in December 2024 for the project. At peak operation, the factory will employ 50 local workers.
According to the authorities, Tesla’s new plant could also host Powerwall and EV charging equipment repairs. It will speed up technical support for Tesla’s regional customers and cut operating costs.
Explaining why the facility is sited close to Neoen’s battery energy storage systems (BESS) facility, Tesla’s director of energy for the APAC, Josef Tadich, said, “Neoen has played a key role in opening new markets and expanding battery storage across the country. We’ve worked closely with Neoen since 2017 on the original big battery, and their recent efforts in WA have unlocked this fantastic opportunity for growth.”
When completed, the Collie BESS project will have a capacity of 560 MW and 2,240 MWh, made up of Tesla’s Megapacks. It was announced in April 2024. Construction is ongoing on the 219 MW/877 MWh first phase, and the second phase will add 341 MW/1363 MWh.
