Starlink license in France revoked by court

SpaceX has experienced a major setback in France after a court revoked the company’s license to provide satellite internet service in the country.

France’s Arcep regulator first granted Starlink a license to operate over two radio frequencies in February 2021.

Two environmental associations, Priartem and Agir pour l’environnement, appealed the approval.

On Tuesday the Conseil d’Etat court sided with them because no public consultations took place prior to the approval.

The court said that since the service “could impact the market of access to high-bandwith internet and affect the interests of end users,” public consultations were required by law. (via Reuters)

SpaceX has not commented on the loss of their license, nor on what the next steps may be for those already signed up for the service.
